About Me

Hey! My name is Ileana and this website is a way for me to keep all my friends, family, and mentors updated on my journey through veterinary medicine.

I started my university career at the University of Alberta where I obtained a BSc in Animal Health (Food Animals) with distinction.  I grew up in St. Albert, AB, Canada and I moved to Melbourne, Australia in 2015 to study Veterinary Medicine. I am now in my fourth (and final) year of the program and am still loving it! I completed all of my pre-clinical placements in Alberta–and you can read about each one in a dedicated blog post. My final year consists of a medley of placements, rotations, and selectives in both Australia and Canada. I have come across some amazing opportunities and I can’t wait to share them with you all.

One of my part-time jobs was working on an alpaca farm!

Vet med has been my passion since I was old enough to stand; and now I’ve gained international experience as I live out my dream and move towards the career I’ve always wanted! Because of my work during the last 2 years of my undergrad I am very interested in food systems and livestock animals. When I graduate I would like to work in a large animal or mixed animal practice.

Outside of academics I love traveling, camping, hiking, concerts, and the such. I like to find and create experiences and lasting memories. Being an international student down under has opened up a whole heap of travel opportunities within Australia and nearby countries–Keep in touch with me as I live my new life as a traveling, exploring, studying vet student!  🙂
