Hey! Ileana here… a bit about me:
I have a BSc in Animal Health (Food Animals) with distinction from the University of Alberta. I grew up in St. Albert, AB, Canada and I made the big move to Australia in early 2015. I have now completed my first two years of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Melbourne and I absolutely loved it! I completed all of my pre-clinical placements in Alberta–and you can read about each one in a dedicated blog post. Now that I am starting the clinical studies portion of my degree I will be continuing placements in/with hospitals and mobile vet services.
Vet med has been my passion since I was old enough to stand; and now I’ll be gaining international experience as I live out my dream and take my first steps towards the career I’ve always wanted! Because of my work during the last 2 years of my undergrad I am very interested in food systems and livestock animals. Once done my DVM I’ve considered specializing in theriogenology — I think this branch of veterinary medicine is highly important in ensuring producers grow and provide the most efficient and safe commodities. (If I had the time, I’d do everything!)
Outside of academics I love traveling, camping, hiking, concerts, and the such. I like to find and create experiences and lasting memories. Being an international student down under has opened up a whole heap of travel opportunities within Australia and nearby countries–Keep in touch with me as I live my new life as a traveling, exploring, studying vet student! 🙂
